Postcards issued by Japan-Taiwan Governor's Office

FORMOSA 1895-1945, The Japanese Colonial History

The sets of postcards during the times of Japanese colonization of Taiwan were mostly issued by the Governor's Office or other semi-official organizations. Prior to World War II except in mainland Japan, all postcards were issued in the name of Japanese government agencies in its colonies, including Taiwan, Korea, Sakhalin, territories leased or occupied in China, and other territories under its commissioned sovereignty. Those issued postcards were referred to as "official leaves."

The "Commemorative Postcard Collection of Japanese Commencement of Reign" issued by Japan-Taiwan Governor's Office, were narrated from the historical viewpoints of Japan, on 17th of June (Taiwan Commencement Day) every year since 1905-1935. There were only 29 sets because the yearly issuing was interrupted in 1913 when Emperor Meiji passed away and between 1926-1931 when there was great turmoil in mainland Japan. In addition, there were no issuance from 1936-1945 since the Japanese invading to China and the World War II.
